Presbyterian Homes is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian organization with a national reputation for creating extraordinary communities for older adults. Services range from assisted living, memory support and skilled nursing care. Client was planning the implementation of HealthMedx (HMX) software and was seeking a training partner to analyze, recommend, design and deliver an effective training and communication plan for the launch of their new long term care, home care and rehab software rollout.
Management was concerned that many of the employees were not experienced in the use of the new technologies selected. Specifically, there was concern that many lacked the basic computer skills necessary to learn to use the new software. This prompted the need to hire a training organization experienced in the assessment of computer skills and development of a very targeted training program to maximize the limited time available for training.
As a first step, TrainSmart conducted a needs assessment to determine the employee technical readiness. The approach included a series of focus groups to determine the concerns and computer skill level of the staff. Based on the evaluation of the information gathered from the focus groups, a skills self-assessment was developed and sent to all staff. The results of the both the focus groups and the readiness training survey report drove the design of the training. A computer skills pre-test was created to allow skilled staff to opt out of basic skills training.
TrainSmart was able to develop a targeted training approach, which truly capitalized on the limited availability of the PHomes staff. Those who needed basic training were given that training to prepare them to successfully learn to use the HealthMedx software.
